Setting Styles

First of all, we have to understand that the setting styles is all about the way we hold the gems. About the ring setting styles, usually, we have six styles. They are Prong Setting,Share Prong Setting, Corner Prong setting, Bar Type Setting, Channel Setting,Bezel Setting.

Before we learn the setting styles, we need to make sure we’d understand every part of a ring. Lucky we can easily learn this from the ring diagram. Then we can understand where is the prongs/ Side Stone, Accent Stone, ect. Here below, we’re going to show you the difference of every different style with pictures and words.

1/Prong Setting

From the right sidepicture, we can see there are something like claws holding the gem. The way holing gems like this we call it Prong Setting. Sometime it has three claws,but sometime have six or more. It doesn’t matter how many pcs claws it’s using,it’s about the way it hold the gems

2/Share Prong Setting

The Share Prong Setting is similar to Prong Setting, actually it belongs to one of the Prong Setting. It’s special because the two next stones is always using the same Prong, and we can see these on theright side picture.

3/ Corner Prong Setting

From the right side picture, we also can clearly see the corner prong setting is also a special prong setting. The corner prong setting usually isusing the “L” style claw or “C” style and “V” as well

4/ Bar Style Setting

The bar style setting is similar to share prong setting, but the difference is the share prong setting is using the claws to hold the gems, and bar style is using the bar all acrossthe rings to hold the gems

5/ Channel Setting

From the right sidepicture, we can see all the gems are surrounded by two side small ring

6/Bezel setting

The Bezel setting is everysingle gem all be surrounded.
